What is Neighbourhood Planning?

Picture
Neighbourhood planning is a key Government reform designed to give communities a real voice in deciding the look and feel of development in their area; from determining the locations of shops, offices and schools to setting standards of design for new housing. CLICK ME to watch a short video about neighbourhood planning.  Our neighbourhood steering group, combined with good urban planning support, will help to better determine the suitability of future development proposals. We hope that Malmesbury can become a very positive example of how neighbourhood planning should work.

How did we become a FRONT RUNNER neighbourhood?
  • We gained the support and endorsement of Wiltshire Council and Malmesbury Area Board to bid for FRONT RUNNER status.
  • We agreed the Neighbourhood Area with Wiltshire Council. (Brokenborough, St Paul Without and Malmesbury Town)
  • We gained the support of local community organisations and neighbouring Parish Councils that are within the Neighbourhood Area
  • We agreed the makeup of the Local Community Neighbourhood Planning Steering Group with Wiltshire Council and made sure it conformed to national government requirements.

What is the function of Malmesbury FRONT RUNNER Neighbourhood Steering Group? A group was set up to steer our vision for the future development of Malmesbury into a Neighbourhood Plan that conforms to the Wiltshire Council Core Strategy, national government requirements, is endorsed by the 3 parishes and is approved by majority vote in a local referendum.
