I attach a list of comments on the plan.
I salute the amount of work that has gone into it and feel it a useful and sound base for the next stage
COMMENTS ON MALMESBURY NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN
1 Double columns difficult to read and follow on
A2 There is no vision
statement. No encapsulation of what we want Malmesbury to be. My suggestion "We
wish Malmesbury to provide a traditional and sympathetic environment for a
caring, friendly and integrated community with ready access to modern facilities
and good education which retains its links with the culture and history of the town"
A6 No vision. Statement of present state and opinion. Goes on in A7 to give
A8.3 Why a heritage centre. There is
already a first rate museum. No mention of using heritage and history to foster
community spirit and consciousness.
A9.1 Yet another vision. Far too long
and repetious e.g. para 4 and 5
Page 10 Not clear if Burnham House is included or
1.1.3 useful to include area
hectares or acres
P14 Population % under 15 less yet
enlarging school. Future white
P 16 Why Site 1 in 2 colours?
P 18 local nature ?reserve missing
Table 2.1.1 Laudable intentions
but little percentage change
P27 Policy 4 influence of “bedroom
tax” omitted. Extra care housing can increase density and reduce car
Supermarket. Good policies but
need to be delivered
3.24 Shopping area reducing already policies to reverse this -possible rate
3.26 Tourism and events incorporate maximum use of
5.62 add Corston
Cross Hayes now holds fewer car parking spaces than it
did. Are we maximising the space? Vertical
contours of Cross Hayes mean a 2 storey car park is possible. Investigate if
possible and feasible and affordable West side of
Cross Hayes needs refurbishment. Poor advert. For town
6.16 good to extend river walk. Avoid cul-de-sac = needs link to road
Conygre Mead is part of River Walk. This important social amenity should not be
7.1.1 Subsidised car parking.
Suggest first hour free second hour 50p
Subsequent hours £2 or £3.
It is a short term car park and should have rapid turnover. Needs good
7.1.2 Signage improved to include
museum Vol 2
New and coordinated signage could be use for S.106
Verylaudable and incontrovertible. Implementation is the key (High St Co-op was
designed by panel of architects !)
Urban spaces 1 and 2 on main route to projected supermarket so pedestrian numbers
may not be low in future.
Tetbury on Easter Saturday afternoon was humming; Malmesbury wasn’t.
