Draft Plan Section 1. The proposed locations make sense, as long as the
development is outside the flood plain. However these locations are actually
closer to Malmesbury Primary School than some of the houses in Reeds Farm, so
there is chance that those people who settled in Reeds Farm with the aim of
sending their children to school there suddenly find they can't get a place.
Draft Plan Section 2. I agree with this suggested housing mix. 4 bedroom +
houses do not seem to sell very quickly around Malmesbury - there is no demand
for them. Smaller houses are needed but no crushed together in the same way as
Filands. More parking is also required as part of the design rather than having
cars parked all along the road. Draft Plan Section 3. Whilst I agree with the
comments about the preferred site for a supermarket, the Sainsburys proposal had
the benefit that industrial units were included in the development, something
which the town needs to create other employment and encourage new local
businesses. Draft Plan Section 4. You suggest the land at the garden centre is
retained for light industrial use - I can't see them developing new industrial
units on the site so it will just stay as it is so of no additional benefit. You
suggest the land behind Persimmon should be retained for light industrial use -
this has planning permission for offices, not light industrial. Haven't we got
enough empty offices already? You suggest locating 5 new workshops in the new
housing area - a good idea in theory but have you canvassed to see what business
might actually go in them? It could just take existing employment from the town
centre, leaving the town even emptier. You suggest a technology park by Dyson -
good idea in theory but that sounds very much like high-technology, of which
there are plenty of empty units in the county. Where is the provision for some
bog standard B1 and B2 units? You only surveyed existing businesses to come up
with this, not potential new businesses. We would like to start a business in
Malmesbury and require a B2 building in the region of 1200sq ft but that doesn't
exist and won't in your plan either, so we will have to go to Kemble, Tetbury or
Chippenham. Such as shame as we could have brought employment to Malmesbury.
