I am very concerned at the lack of a Town driven planning approach. Having
reviewed the draft document the steering group appears to have been driven
primarily by outside influences namely Gleesons Strategic Land, Sainsbury and
Waitrose. Surely any planning approach that is driven by the commercial
approaches made is only reacting to these approaches and is not conducting a fit
and proper 'arms length' review to provide future planning for the town. It is
quite evident that this reactive approach is a constant theme in the draft
document and there is little if no original thought or innovation. Can I please
request that this process is now stopped and a serious alternative plan
developed to look at how a future for the Town can be developed without a
supermarket? The current consultation does not appear to have offered this
option to the local residents and until it does the entire process has to be
seen as biased and unbalanced.
