Section 3. More shopping choice/ A prosperous town centre.
I write as a local resident in support of the MNSG’s proposals concerning the issue of a new
supermarket in Malmesbury. I have been particularly impressed with the
professionalism and the meticulous attention to detail presented in the plan.
The plan makes a compelling case that future developments should be supportive
of the existing High Street provision.
I have particular concerns relating to the proposals for an out of town supermarket
development which I believe to be wholly unacceptable given the scale of
development and distance from the town centre. This can only result in a
significant diversion of trade away from the existing High Street leaving shops

While another supermarket may be required in Malmesbury to serve the needs of a
growing population this should where possible form part of the existing retail
structure and not detract from it.

MNSG through its assessment of the evidence has clearly arrived at this conclusion and I
would be wholly supportive of its opinion that this is the proposal which should
Draft Plan Section 2. A housing mix that supports the needs of local people.
I would also like to support the MNSG’s proposals relating to the provision of more smaller
dwellings for first-time buyers as well as the redevelopment of the Burnham
House site for independent living units for the
Draft Plan Section 5 and 6.
I would also like to support the MNSG’s proposal that housing and school places proceed in
step with each other, as well as the proposals protecting the provision of sporting facilities and facilities for the youth.
Malmesbury has a strong community spirit and is a great place to live so let us ensure that
any developments enhance that and do not detract from it.
