Housing & supermarket site selection criteria, point 11 'impact on historic
views' page 12. I have read the Settlement Assessment and seen a contour map of
the town yet I still fail to understand how this criteria has been sensibly
applied. For example site 8 for housing (6 for supermarket) land N of Filands
has been given the highest score of 10 compared to the field behind Avon Mills
that has been allocated the lowest score. The view from the bypass looks across
at the Avon Silk Mills with a backdrop of the hilltop town and Abbey, a view
that will be spoilt if a Waitrose supermarket is built on the field, a
supermarket that will be almost as high as the Inner Silk Mill! However, there
is no view from site 8, all that can be seen is the housing development on the
former site of the secondary school! Please advise what is the thinking here?
Surely it is the actual view that needs to be considered not a numerical
