I think this draft plan would be a disaster for Malmesbury. I cannot believe you
are proposing extending the old hospital site – where my grandmother was cared
for in her last illness. Burton Hill has enough houses, please stop! The
Waitrose site on the field next to Avon Mills, where my relatives live, is also
a terrible idea. And now you want to build on the beautiful area near the
cemetery where my grandparents are buried… so all the landmarks of my childhood
are being picked off one by one. I live in London, but wanted to move back to
Malmesbury last year after finishing my degree and had job interviews in Swindon
and Chippenham. I was upset not to get either job but got a very good job in
London, so here I still am. By the time I manage to get a job in Wiltshire you
will have concreted it up so it will be the same as London. Your draft plan
talks about the elderly and schools, both important, but what about jobs? The
Wilts public transport system is lousy, I had a free bus pass in London until I
left school, why not the same in Wilts.? Housing is important to me, getting my
own place is a future dream, but please don’t destroy Malmesbury’s green fields
for more housing estates and a new supermarket. Houses are valuable but you
can’t replace memories.
