The Draft Plan is an excellent document developed by a wide ranging suite of
community groups whose aim is the wider interests of Malmesbury, not the
extraction of short term profit by developers. The Draft Plan has my full
support. Additional consideration may be given to potential for employment space
at Cowbridge. This was originally an employment area, and residential
development was approved as work live units which have unfortunately not
transpired. Proposals for housing development are excellent, capturing the
essence of Malmesbury through developments which fit in all senses with the
essence of Malmesbury. Supermarket provision must be very carefully controlled
to ensure independent verification that it may compliment, not detract, from the
High Street. This could include post construction reviews to ensure claims made
at the planning stage are genuine and fulfilled. Attention is drawn to the poor
track record of planning control in Malmesbury. The Plan will need the full
support of the Planning Authority to ensure its successful implementation.
