1. Access to preferred housing sites ( 3A, 15) where is road to go?
( assuming permission!) It will lead residents out of town, not into it. Not sure that
pedestrian access only will satisfy the MNSG's stated objectives of housing
being 'connected to the town with shops, schools and amenities in walking
distance'. It's a long way for many to walk - up steep hills, particularly old
and infirm. 2. Housing arounf Primary Care Centre - is this land available? It
is actively farmed at present. Concerned that density of housing here will tent
to isolate the residents of Athelstan Hpuse, extra housing here will create a
huge increase in traffic around this are and affect the safety of elderly
residents. 3. very concerned about 'blanket approach' to non-
High St shops. Of course we should do everything possible to
preserve our shops in the Hihg St - but it is time to take othe shops/
buildings on their own merit. for example the recent decision to deny change of
use to the shop known as 'The Kit Box' will now condemn that building to further
decay. It is a Grade 2 listed property seen from our principal tourist
attraction - the Abbey than can only now fall into ruin. We have enough
properties like this in Oxford Street! 4. I feel unable to comment on
Supermarket site as there has been no decision yet from the Co-Op- this would
affect my opinion. However despite comments above may I take this opportunity
to congratulate the MNSG on a very well presented, well reasoned plan. The hard
work involved is highly evident.
