On the whole the plan is very good and we are aware that Malmesbury as an older
age population but we are very concerned about the lack of early years
information within the report. We have not been contacted by the education team
and on checking other preschools and the childrens centre have also not been
approached. We feel this is very short sighted of the group as early years is a
key topic at the moment. We noticed that preschools which have been contacted
are not main feeders for Malmesbury schools or within the area the group were
mainly looking at . Our parents are going to feel that we were asked but choose
not to be involved based on the supporting document. Please ensure that this
information is corrected as soon as possible and if any further information is
required please ensure we are contacted.. Preschools can currenty cope in the
area but like Malmesbury Primary school there will be pressure on places with in
the local area based on housing built.. Therefore it is important that
preschools, children centre and Lea earlys team are involved so that they can
look at changes to provision and places within the current system of exsisting
settings and children minders. After all children have five years before
starting school and most families now work and high numbers attended preschools
based on funding for child care. Malmesbury cannot continue with an ageing
population it needs to have a more even population age in order to grow . This
will happen over time but it will only happen if the town as more to offer to
our younger population as well as meeting the needs of the older population.
That includes outstanding preschools and early years education, outstanding
schools, local jobs, affordable housing mainly rentable and local affordable
shopping. All of this would help to keep sending in the town and aid families
with young children especially those familes who have lived in Malmesbury for
all of their lives. They should not feel pressured to move to Chippenham or
Swindon just to meet their needs or to make their money go further especially in
these very difficult times for young families. We have supported a number of
families over the last few years and they have all felt pressures through the
lack of amenities to met their families needs in Malmesbury.
